Baseball from the United States: Apple also broadcasts live sports in Germany

Apple’s first attempt at sports TV is now also available in Germany: Since the end of last week, “Friday Night Baseball” has been available to subscribers of the TV+ video service, except for the US, Canada, Australia, Brazil, Japan, Mexico, Puerto Rico, South Korea and the UK , but also in other regions of the world.

In practice, this means that every Friday you can watch at least two Major League Baseball (MLB) games live – directly through the streaming service on Apple TV, Mac, iPhone, iPad and several other devices using the Apple TV app and browser. However, the games are delayed due to the time difference: For example, the Washington Nationals face the Philadelphia Phillies next Friday at 12:25 CEST, and the Cincinnati Reds face the Milwaukee Brewers at 1:25.

After all: “Friday Night Baseball” games can be watched repeatedly even after the live broadcast, Apple wants to share analysis and news formats, highlights and classic games through TV+. More MLB original content is also planned. However, the entire baseball program is only available if you complete the corresponding package for an additional subscription fee.

So far, Apple has been streaming MLB get positive reviews. The group tries to be a little more “hipster” than other sports television providers when it comes to moderators. There are more women in editors and commentators than in other stations. It is also commendable that the broadcasts do not use the usual extreme advertising that is familiar from US commercial television. However, sponsored advertising can also be seen on TV+.

For Apple, “Friday Night Baseball” is just the beginning. Next, the company starts broadcasting soccer and has acquired the rights to the American league Major League Soccer (MLS), which is becoming increasingly popular in North America. Here, too, it should only be a question of the game selection, all games are only available with an additional subscription. MLS games should move to TV+ in the coming months. But Apple is also working on other sporting events and is probably interested in football from Europe as well. Apple TV+ currently costs 5 euros per month.
