Japanese baseball prodigy Shohei Ohtani continues to build his legendary status in the MLB.
The biggest baseball stars are the so-called «two-way players», who excel as both pitchers and hitters. Shohei Ohtani of the Los Angeles Angels is undoubtedly one of them.
The 28-year-old led his side to an undisputed 5-1 win against the Oakland Athletics – although he briefly skipped across the field after being hit in the leg. In his six innings, he struck out 5 batters without allowing a run.
He also hit his 25th home run of the season. With a total of 118 home runs, he is now second only to Hideki Matsui (175) in the ranking of Japanese players.
Like Ruth – and two black ones
His 10th win of the season as a pitcher makes him the first player since Babe Ruth in 1918 to reach double figures in those categories in the same major league season.
However, this does not include the achievements of Ed Rile and Bullet Rogan, who achieved the same so-called in the “negro leagues” of baseball, which was segregated at the time.
