Schalke 04 News: Ulli Potofski’s column on the BVB derby | football news

Ulli Potofski has worked as a sports journalist since 1979. Sky Reporter does not hide his affection for his home and heart club Schalke 04. In his column “Ulli Potofskis Schalke” he covers topics related to the Royal Blues and their fans.

Dear Schalke community

Since I am already an “older Schalke”, I will first remember two games that particularly stuck in my mind and that I also experienced in the stadium.

Kaspersky as one derby wonder

First I go to the 1968/69 season. A game that was still played at Glückauf-Kampfbahn. At that time, only 25,000 spectators wanted to see BVB – and Stan Libuda was running on the right wing. But another player was the star that day.

A certain Gerd Kaspersky scored two goals for the miners – and S04 won 4:1. However, not much was heard about the attacker after that. I still have fond memories of him to this day.

Eight goals in dense fog

In contrast, 1966 was a negative match, which Schalke lost 2:6 in Dortmund. The Rote Erde stadium was sold out, but the 40,000 spectators saw almost none of the eight goals. Dense fog was over the Ruhr area – and the result was a consolation.

What story is coming on Saturday? Normally, Schalke are just blatant outsiders – and I’m glad Haaland’s force of nature is now playing in Manchester and not too good to score against BVB.

Therefore: a point would be a great success for Schalke. But who knows – maybe a new Kaspersky will be found – which will then be called Terodde. Or 0:4 becomes 4:4 again.

Derbies always create stories. And I’m sure there will be another exciting story.
