The Dornbirn Indians welcome the Vienna Wanderers on Saturday to start the “best of five” final series. The final duel between between the Viennese and Vorarlberg is the first appearance in the long history of the Baseball Bundesliga.
Dornbirn Indians and Vienna Wanderers meet for the first time in the final, although both teams have already won eight championships together. Wanderers already have five Champions trophies in their trophy cabinet and three each for the Indians. Vorarlberg’s last championship is from 2019 – Wanderers were last crowned champions in 2015.
The road to the final in 2022 was much more certain for the Western champions in Dornbirn, as they did not have to accept defeat in the quarter-finals or semi-finals. Having dominated the regular season almost at will, Wanderers needed a big effort against Metrostars in the semi-final – but eventually won the fifth and deciding game by a narrow margin of 7:3. Two duels were played in the regular season – the Viennese won in Dornbirn in both games. Since then, however, Graeham Luttor’s side’s engine seems to be running like clockwork, winning 15 of 16 games (including the play-offs).
